An international negotiation

Japan ⇄ Europe

Japan–Europe Business

What you need isn't an interpreter — it's a bridge.

When business between Japan and Europe stalls, the problem is usually not the language. The meaning of a meeting, the meaning of a silence, the meaning of "we'll consider it positively" — misunderstandings happen in the cultural layer outside the words.

KYOFLOW is neither a translation company nor an interpreting agency. A French-born founder, based in Kyoto for more than a decade, with experience working inside Japanese companies, runs alongside you — from designing the strategy to sitting at the negotiating table — in Japanese, English, and French. A strategic advisor standing between Japan and Europe.

From Europe to Japan, from Japan to Europe. In either direction, we help with the same honesty.

Field Notes

The problems we meet on the ground, and how we approach them.

Not generalities — the themes we've actually been asked about, again and again.

The problem 01

A good product, but the talks don't continue

There was real interest at the trade show. Business cards were collected, and a careful follow-up email went out. Still, no second reply comes. The product is clearly well regarded, yet it's a mystery why things don't move forward — we hear the same from companies on both sides.

The KYOFLOW approach

In most cases, the cause is not handing over "what the other side needs to move the discussion internally." We rebuild the order of the materials, pricing, and proposal with the decision-maker behind your contact in mind — not just the person in front of you. Rather than casting wide and shallow, we narrow to a few candidates worth a deep relationship, and build it in the right order and the right manner.

The problem 02

You can't tell what "we'll consider it positively" means

In the meeting they said yes. Yet the contract doesn't progress. Or, the French side's frank debate is taken as "aggressive." Both sides are sincere, and yet the distance grows with every meeting — the most common, and least noticed, misunderstanding in Japan–Europe negotiations.

The KYOFLOW approach

We sit in on the negotiation and interpret not just the words but what was really happening in the room. After the meeting we explain each side's intent and design the next move together. We build the whole negotiation around how decisions are made in that culture — where, by whom, and on what timeline.

The problem 03

No trusted point of contact on the ground

You sense the market's potential, but it's not yet the stage to place someone on the ground full time. You can coordinate on each business trip, but there's no one who moves things day to day. Judging partner candidates and getting first-hand local information are out of reach from a distance.

The KYOFLOW approach

From a base in Kyoto, we function as "the point of contact before you post someone on the ground." Market research comes from first-hand local sources, not translated reports. From partner search to regular advisory to designing site visits, we support you continuously, in a form matched to your size and stage.

One Point of Contact

One point of contact, all the way through.

Strategy when you need strategy. Execution when you need execution. One point of contact, always.

KYOFLOW doesn't keep every specialist in-house. When execution needs specialist hands — photography, web development, marketing operations, AI implementation, operational improvements — we assemble a project team of trusted specialists for each engagement, and KYOFLOW stays accountable for the overall design and quality. You never have to manage several companies separately. From first to last, your point of contact is KYOFLOW alone.

Process

From first conversation to support

01Listening

First, tell us where things stand and what's on your mind. Online or in Kyoto, about 30 minutes. No pitch. There's no fee at this stage.

02Analysis and proposal

We look at your data and your floor, then lay out the structure of the problem and the direction of the response. If we judge that we can't help, we'll tell you honestly, with our reasons and an alternative.

03Working alongside you

In execution, we don't leave a report and walk away — we get on the floor and move things with you. Where specialist hands are needed, we build a team of trusted specialists, with KYOFLOW as the single point of contact accountable for the whole.
